What is it with swimsuits? I’ve always really struggled to find anything to fit me, mostly the problem is a long torso, apparently.  In fact some companies make swimsuits specifically for us ladies inflicted with long torsos.

I not only have to suffer a long torso I also have serious cellulite on my thighs and I really don’t feel comfortable in public with nothing more then a bit of Lycra covering my rude bits.  Problem is that most of the time said Lycra/spandex whatever these things are made out of fails to cover my rude bits properly.  Bending over to look for something in my bag on a crowded beach is a no no.  I normally fling off my clothes and run for the sea as quickly as possible trying to avoid watching eyes.  I also need something that will remain in situ when I am flung down water slides after the kids or I am body boarding on the north Cornish coast.  Yes, I have suffered the indignity of being proud of punch with myself for catching the surf on my bit of polystyrene only to stand up, victoriously punch my fist in the air before realising that I am naked from the waist up.  Thank god the thing is secured at the crotch otherwise I doubt I would have ever seen it again…

So, back to the dreaded swimsuit shopping.  I stick to black.  Always.  So much more flattering and chic, And bikini days are long gone – my tummy after 3 kids does not need to be on display.  I have hunted high and low ladies trust me and this one by seaspray is really very good, it is my favourite suit and I find it really comfortable.  It doesn’t ride up, its black and I love the removable straps.  I like to wear a oversized white cotton shirt flung on top…

I also have this one by M&S.  I love the fabric and the padded cleavage helps to flatter but it is a bit short on the torso department.  I sized up with this one for extra comfort…

I also like the look of this one from M&S…

I couldn’t see any swimsuits with longer length on the M&S website which is annoying, I have contacted them so will keep you posted…

I also love these (don’t forget to check out my Pinterest page for all the info on where to buy)…

I have heard amazing things about the miraclesuit.  Has anyone got one? It’s a bit too pricey for me.

Talking of pricey I hear from reliable sources that French ladies swear by Eres, I guess I will never know how wonderful these are because the price is way out of my league, this one comes in at a cool £320 from net-a-porter

I would love some feedback from anyone else with a long torso who struggles with swimwear… where do you buy yours from?

Comment below or email me: juleschi@googlemail.com I would love to hear from you!

Thanks,

I’m enjoying my daily sea swims are you?

  1. This made me chuckle. I’m not ‘inflicted with a long torso’ but I have the cellulite issue that impact my confidence. This year I’ve got the added issue of a stoma bag to deal with and trying to conceal that is going to be quite the challenge I think! You’ve got some good picks and I quite like that M&S one too in black with the purple bands of colour. I hope they get back to you on your enquiry. After all, these aren’t just any old swimsuits. These are M&S swimsuits! You look very happy in that photo, love it! ♥

    1. Thank you. I feel very silly complaining about my cellulite when I consider everything that you have had to endure, I have had a quick google on this subject because I admit, I am a bit ignorant, general advice seems to be that it shouldn’t stop you swimming, wearing the bag horizontally minimises it’s appearance but I’m sure that most people are too busy focusing on themselves to scrutinise you…
Maybe I should take some of my own advice?!
I hope you get to enjoy swimming this summer xx

      1. No no not at all, I didn’t mean to make it sound as though I’ve got more to contend with, that’s certainly not the case. And it’s not silly to feel insecure or to fret or be self-conscious about your body and cellulite (I was probably more self-conscious about these things even before the bag!) But I’d definitely say you should take some of your own advice – a swimsuit style that you like, a smile on your face, appreciation for what your body can do and just enjoy the wonderful feel of swimming! 🙂

  2. Retro and vintage style swimsuits are certainly worth having a look at. Not only are hey pretty (and you can get them in black) many have longer legs covering the bum and tops of the thighs or pretty little skirts which hide any unfortunate swimsuit journeys that often take place when playing with the kids ( hungry bum sucks) Google will provide all the answers. Though I got a great one on Amazon https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/aw/d/B01ESTC5GK/ref=pd_aw_sim_sbs_193_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=DFZ0S7VSN5REDWJ3Z2WD&dpPl=1&dpID=51cNCcsH4vL you’re covered in all right places and feel good too xo

    1. I love vintage inspired swimsuits! They are definitely a better fit on the bum and thighs. When I initially posted this article I did receive some criticism that I was being silly about not wanting to flaunt my body but it’s about more then that, it’s about comfort a lot of the time for me, and as you say hungry bum is bloomin uncomfortable and annoying!

      1. Being comfortable in yourself comes from being comfortable in what you wear. We are all daft for criticising ourselves so much, but you don’t have to flaunt what you’ve got in order to love it … You can still feel hot as hell with your bum covered 😂
