Sometimes your outfit needs something a little special, a gem of a piece to set it off.  I buy most of my stuff on the high street and have the occasional designer splurge on key pieces that I think are worth spending money on – coats, bags and shoes mainly; quality staples that will be worn year in year out.  But sometimes I want something a bit special, something unique..

I had a lovely morning this week with a friend who shared her latest discovery with me, a vintage clothing shop in Lancing.  A real hidden gem of a shop, which is home to quite possibly the best selection of women’s clothing I have come across in a long time (and I do think I am spoilt living near Brighton).  Behind the modest façade lies a real treasure trove of ladies fashion from a bygone age.

I had so much fun trying on just this small selection:

I’m going to need some ‘shaping’ lingerie underneath the leopard print dress and some heels.. I am so looking forward to wearing this amazing silk dress as worn by a former model working for Selfridges.

And what about this beautiful silk blouse from Jacques Vert..

And I would wear these army trousers with a waist clinching belt, lacy blouse and some heels when I want to dress them up:

The charismatic lady that runs the store is clearly passionate about vintage clothing and we spent some time chatting to her about where she sources and discovers the gems within.  Many of the pieces have a glamorous story to tell and you can’t help but feel an incredible connection to the past.  This little shop now discovered will be a regular drop in when needing a little pick me up, but, shh, don’t tell everyone ..
